Dear traveler,

Many people fly to Cancun to stay in the giant resorts catered to tourists. I am not one of those people. I prefer to stay at small hotels in small towns to experience the authentic culture.

Rancho Sakol is a hotel in the small town of Puerto Morelos located about a 25-minute drive from Cancun Airport.

It’s a beautiful set of modern huts located on a stunning private beach for the meager cost of about $69 a night (depending on the time of year). The breakfast is simple but plentiful including eggs, beans, peanut butter, jelly, coffee and seasonal fruit etc. You can make your own omelet with vegetables and cheese the hotel provides.

The dining room is an enclosed room except for the straw roof. The room faces the water with half the floor in the room being sand, a beach feel.

Our room had a beautiful porch with two hammocks hanging. Sit back, relax and enjoy the view of nature and the amazing temperature.

I forgot to mention, the hotel has it’s own private beach.

The recommended local activity is diving because of the unbelievably clear blue/green water. We went with Tulaka Diving to bring us the magnificence of the Caribbean Sea. The instructor was careful and attentive with explaining how to navigate touring the sea.

The best way to end a night is to sit on the beach, drink a glass of wine, and stare at the glowing stars in the dark night sky.

The few days we spent there was an introduction into the beauty of the Mexican food, customs, and wildlife.

Travel forever, Soreh
